Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 tsp almond extract

  • 1 egg

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp cream of tartar

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1/3 cup butter, softened

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 1-2 tbsp half-and-half or milk

  • food coloring

Make

  1. Beat 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar and 1 cup butter until light and fluffy. Add 1 tsp vanilla, almond extract, and egg and blend well
  2. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup, level off and add along with baking soda and cream of tartar. Mix well
  3. Cover with plastic wrap, refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours for easier handling
  4. Preheat oven to 375F
  5. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 3/16-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheets
  6. Bake for 7 to 12 minutes until set and very light golden on edges. Cool 1 minute and then remove from cookie sheets to cool completely
  7. Then combine all frosting ingredients (powdered sugar - milk) and beat until smooth
